Healthy Food for Eyes

Have you been WATCHING what you eat?

Although your eyesight will change continually throughout your life, you can make lifestyle choices to help keep optimal eye health throughout the years.

One of the major factors for good eye health is a diet that consists of food rich in antioxidants, vegetables and fish. An insufficient intake of antioxidants and an excessive amount of alcohol and saturated fat consumption can be bad not only for your overall health but it can also harm your eyes as high-fat diets can cause deposits that constrict blood flow in your arteries. The eyes are especially sensitive to this because the blood vessels that feed them are small in size.

What’s good to eat?

Oily fish is a good source of Omega-3 Fatty Acids. These essential fatty acids can help prevent dry eyes and possibly cataracts.

Nuts, Legumes and Seeds which are also a source of Omega-3 and contain a high level of vitamin E which protects the eye from age-related damage.

Citrus Fruits which are rich in Vitamin C which is an antioxidant that can also fight age-related eye damage.

Leafy greens which are rich in both lutein and zeaxanthin and also a good source of Vitamin C Carrots which are rich in Vitamin A. Vitamin A is a component of a protein called rhodopsin which helps the retina absorb light.

Beef which is rich in Zinc. Zinc helps in delaying age-related loss of vision and macular degeneration.

Water as it prevents dehydration, which can help reduce dry eyes.

Eating the right food can give you the proper vitamins that can help you defend vision problems that often arrive later in life. So be sure to make some room on your place for veggies!
